Goli Dreamy Sleep vs Olly Sleep: two melatonin gummies, label by label

Goli Dreamy Sleep lists 5 mg of melatonin with magnesium per serving. Olly Sleep lists 3 mg with 100 mg of L-theanine. Here are both labels side by side, with no winner declared.

Goli Dreamy Sleep and Olly Sleep are two of the best-known melatonin gummies in the United States. Both are taken as two gummies before bed. They differ in how much melatonin they contain, in what accompanies it and in what the gummy is made of.

Where these numbers come from

The Goli column is from the Supplement Facts information on Goli’s own product page, read in October 2026. The Olly column is from the label record for that product in the National Institutes of Health Dietary Supplement Label Database, entered in June 2024. Manufacturers change formulas, so check the bottle in your hand before relying on either column.

Gummy Verdict earns a commission if you buy Goli through our links and nothing from Olly. That is a reason to be careful, so this page compares what is printed on the two labels and does not name a winner. We have not tasted or lab-tested either product.

What is actually different

Melatonin: 5 mg against 3 mg

This is the main difference. A 2013 meta-analysis of 19 trials found that melatonin modestly shortened the time taken to fall asleep and modestly lengthened sleep, and most of those trials used 5 mg or less. Both products are inside that range. A higher dose has not been shown to work reliably better, and some people feel groggy the next morning as the dose rises. Per gummy, Goli’s is 2.5 mg and Olly’s is 1.5 mg, so either can be started at one gummy. See which melatonin dose makes sense.

The companion ingredient: magnesium or L-theanine

Goli adds 50 mg of magnesium, about 12 percent of the Daily Value. That is a small top-up. Trials of magnesium for sleep used several hundred milligrams.

Olly adds 100 mg of L-theanine. A four-week trial that reported better scores on a sleep questionnaire used 200 mg a day, so Olly’s amount is half of that. See L-theanine for stress for how to read that line.

In both cases the companion is present at less than the amount studied on its own. The melatonin is the ingredient doing the measurable work.

The herbs

Both include lemon balm, chamomile and passionflower. Goli lists more lemon balm, 90 mg against 16 mg. Studies of lemon balm for sleep and calm generally used 300 mg to 600 mg of extract, so neither label reaches that. Our lemon balm guide covers the research.

Sugar

Olly lists 2 g per serving and Goli lists 4 g. Both are taken right before bed, so brush afterwards.

Gelatin

Goli’s gummy is set with pectin, which comes from fruit. Olly’s ingredient list includes gelatin, which comes from animals. That matters if you are vegetarian or vegan or follow a diet that restricts animal sources. See pectin vs gelatin.

Which label fits which person

  • You want the lower melatonin dose: Olly’s label, at 3 mg, or one Goli gummy at 2.5 mg.
  • You already take 5 mg and it suits you: Goli’s label matches it in one serving.
  • You want L-theanine with your melatonin: Olly lists it. Goli does not.
  • You avoid gelatin: Goli’s label.
  • You are limiting sugar: Olly’s label is 2 g lower per serving.
  • You want a sleep gummy with no melatonin: neither. See sleep gummies without melatonin.

Who should skip both

Melatonin can interact with blood thinners, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants and sedatives. Ask your doctor first if you take any of them. The NIH says there is not enough research on melatonin in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Both products are for adults. Do not drive after taking either.

Melatonin gummies are for occasional sleeplessness. If poor sleep lasts more than a few weeks, see a doctor. See also can you take melatonin every night.

Common questions

Which has more melatonin, Goli or Olly?

Per two-gummy serving, Goli Dreamy Sleep lists 5 mg and Olly Sleep lists 3 mg.

Is Olly Sleep vegan?

Its ingredient list includes gelatin, so no. Goli Dreamy Sleep is set with pectin.

Which has less sugar?

Olly Sleep lists 2 g per serving and Goli Dreamy Sleep lists 4 g.

Can I take both together?

No. Both contain melatonin, and taking them together doubles up the dose.

Is 5 mg of melatonin better than 3 mg?

Not reliably. Trials have not shown that higher doses work better, and they are more likely to cause grogginess.
